Bearing gifts

au naturel

My friend was laughing at me the other day. As I was poking around in my pocketbook, trying to find a pen, I kept pulling out various fruits and vegetables. Handing her lemons and cucumbers she asked what I was doing with a small produce market in my purse? I told her this was a pretty typical day - most of the time I have some form of nature either on me or close by.
On this day I was experimenting with lemons and cucumbers to make a special 'skin lightening cream' design to naturally fade away those dark spots that tend to creep up on us in the middle of the night!
We entered into a long discussion about skin care and how I use the natural properties found in the foods we regularly consume.
It's common for me to have something from nature close by. My philosophy for healthy skin is based on my belief in the restorative properties of nature's products (fruits, vegetables, oats, barley, minerals, and oils) to heal and enhance the skin and its beauty.
I thought it might be nice to supply you with some helpful tips and formulas that will help your skin look great, naturally!
The first place to start is from within.
* Make sure you are eating a healthy and balanced diet.
* Pamper yourself. Your skin is influenced by your emotions and mental well being. If you can't make it in for one of my facials, then carve out some time for a mini one at home.
Be a good friend to your skin. Leave those blemishes alone. Messing around with them will not only will encourage more breakouts, but cause scarring. If you do have a break out, use this at-home remedy for better coverage to look your best for the holiday party season!
*Improve blemish coverage. Use sheer foundation and drying lotion. Place a dab of drying lotion over breakouts to "retexturize" them (blemishes stretch the skin and the tops can be very smooth and unable to grip make-up).
*Treat deeper cysts with a warm compress several times a day to kill bacteria. The heat helps to emulsify the sebum which helps the head to emerge faster.
Exfoliation is the key to removing a dull complexion. When you ex foliate you remove the top layer of dead skin cells and reveal a healthy new layer of skin.
*Try mixing fine cornmeal with hot water. This is an excellent scrub to use once a week, or,
*Exfoliate with AHA (alpha hydroxy acids)
*For dry patchy skin, mix 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice and 2 tablespoons fresh cucumber juice and apply to the skin. Leave on for a good 3 minutes then rinse with cool water. Lovely!
Make certain you pay close attention to sensitive areas of the face. It is the finest skin on our body and needs special care.
*When applying eye cream, use circular motion to stimulate stagnant blood flow.
You want to always follow a skin routine that includes a cleanser, toner, moisturizer, nourishing cream and spf.
*Always cleanse at the end of the day with a sulfate free formula. Sulfates make the cleanser foam but are very hard on your skin.
*If you have dry skin make sure you apply a thick and rich overnight mask to boost regeneration while you sleep.
*If you have oily skin use yogurt, lemon and honey. The lactic acid gently strips away dead skin cells that clog pores and the lemon lightens dark spots. The honey has antimicrobial properties. Mix 2 tablespoons yogurt with 1 tablespoon lemon juice and 1 tablespoon honey. Apply for 10 to 20 minutes and remove with a warm, wet washcloth.
Finally for aging skin, it's simple - enjoy life every day. Always look for a reason to smile....there is nothing more beautiful than that!
Until next week,

Smoke and mirrors

This might sound funny but a little over thirty years ago, while looking in a mirror, I found my true passion, beauty. Not mine, but others. I dedicated my studies to the natural science of beauty and worked closely with clients. From this, I developed a line of skin care products, virtually unchanged for 30 years, designed to maintain and enhance the skin.
Over the years I run into individuals who have tried the latest, greatest anti aging cream, or one of the 'quick results' treatments guaranteed to turn back time. Some have even resorted to surgery. Ads run daily on the tv and full spreads can be found in all the beauty magazines, talk show hosts play with the newest products. But behind all this smoke is just marketing. The beauty industry is a well honed machine.
After each of my treatments, I hold a mirror up so my clients can see just how beautiful they are. I do that whether they are 23 or 91, because at any age, they are truly beautiful.
I know a little something about smoke and mirrors....this past week we had a house fire in our home here in Seattle. Smoke caused a lot of damage to some very precious items - the crystals on my wedding dress, drop cystals on my treaused chandeliers, even a few antique mirrors. I saw first hand how damaging smoke can be and I was reminded of the damage caused by the smoke and mirrors of big business beauty.
So, I encourage you to pick up a mirror, revel in your own beauty and if you need some help, give me a call. I would love to help you find the natural beauty. not only in your skin, but within you!
Until next week,
